Western North Carolina's Virtual Village is offering artists and craftspeople an opportunity to display their work online, free of charge, to Western North Carolina and the rest of the world via the Internet.
The combined efforts of local artist Michael M. Rogers and Dnet Internet Services has resulted in a redesigned website that truly exhibits the beauty of this magnificent area. We invite you to join the growing number of artisans who are being featured on www.wncvillage.com. This is a great opportunity to reach art lovers and to display your work among other high quality arts and crafts.
To insure that all of the arts and crafts featured on the Virtual Village are of comparable quality, a standards committee has been formed to review all submissions. The committee is comprised of local artists and art lovers who want to be sure all of the art and crafts featured on the site are of the highest possible quality.
Applications will be reviewed monthly. You will be notified by mail or email once the committee has reached a decision. As a "Family Friendly" service, Dnet reserves the right to refuse any work it deems inappropriate.
This is a free service, and therefore we waive responsibility for typos or other mistakes. If you see something that doesn't look quite right, just let us know and we will do our best to take care of it in a timely manner.
All you need to do is fill out this simple application form and the standards committee will review your request and determine if you are eligible to be featured on the Arts & Crafts page of WNC's Virtual Village.
Requirements:
The WNC Village Arts & Crafts site is open to all artists and crafters in Cherokee, Clay, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties. All participants must create the majority of their work (Not just assemble various ready-made pieces.) and you must do the work yourself - no cottage industries.
Photos of your work should be of good quality...in focus and with good contrast. If you send digital photos please size them to 345 X 300 pixels and 72 DPI. See tips below for taking photos.
If using traditional film media, 3 X 5 or 4 X 6 prints are
fine. Sorry, no slides please. Try to make sure the photos are in sharp focus
with good lighting and contrast. If possible, photograph your work against a
neutral or relatively plain background so your work isn't competing with the
background for attention.
For digital photos we recommend a resolution setting of at least 1024 X
768...the higher the better. After taking the photos first reduce the DPI (Dots
Per Inch) to 72 and then the size down to 345 x 300 pixels in your photo or
image editing software.
If you don't have a camera or don't feel comfortable taking the photos yourself
you may bring your work to our offices at Dnet Technology Place, 185 Franklin
Plaza, Franklin NC, and we will be happy to photograph it for you. If
bringing your work in for us to photograph it is a good idea to call ahead first
and let us know you're coming.
