ABOUT THE ARTIST
Doreyl Ammons Cain...
Born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of
western North Carolina, she grew up drawing birds in the
dirt of the
mountain roads around her home. Even as a child she
dreamed about being an
artist, and painted forever in her mind the misty
mountains she loved so
deeply.
Later, in California, after achieving a Bachelor of Fine
Arts and a
Master's degree in Biomedical Art, her dreams became a
reality as she
worked in about every artistic venue-- storyboarding for
films, owning her
own design & advertising agency (specializing in
logo design) while
exhibiting her works of fine art in group and individual
shows at the
Smithsonian Institute, the Pentagon, University of
Southern California
School of Medicine, and universities, museums and
galleries throughout the
country.
Since coming home to North Carolina, she co-founded
Catch the Spirit of
Appalachia, Inc., a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to honoring the
heritage and creativity of all people. Through this
outlet, she and her
sister, Amy Garza, author and storyteller, have
facilitated creativity
workshops and performed (storytelling and spontaneous
visual art) for
children and adults in schools and colleges all over the
southeast. In 1999
she wrote a new book called Greatness in a Nutshell.
The book helps
people explore their unique creativity and follow their
dream.
Presently she and her husband, Jerry Cain, are following
their dream by
building a Nature Center & Yurt Center called
Nature's Home, (based on
Permaculture) where people can visit and become in tune
with nature. Here
they conduct Nature Art & Tai Chi workshops and have
well known naturalist,
artists, musicians and writers conduct workshops as
well.
She and Jerry also own a marketing design firm called
Seat of Your Pants
Visual Media where they design logos & corporate
image for companies
throughout the world.
