ABOUT THE ARTIST
Doris Hunter is a Macon County native from A mountain family
that spans five generations. She created her first pinecone bird
in 1973. It was love from the beginning.
With skillful hands and simple materials, she makes favorite
birds of the South spring to life. Pinecones, cotton burrs, clay
and seeds for eyes become wrens, owls, blue birds and the most
popular: hummingbirds.
The local lakes of Fontana and Nantahala provide driftwood
perches (with mountain laurel beautiful shapes being the
favorite). Each piece is hand-picked to make every arrangement a
one-of-a-kind of exquisite beauty.
The trumpet vines and dogwood blossoms are corn shucks that come
from a local farmer's corn crib.
She a Heritage Folk Artist with the Southern Highland Handcraft
Guild.
